Jesus never fails. I did. My husband and I had been living large for nearly thirty years and were in debt up to our eyeballs when the housing market crashed. As went the economy, so went my husbands job. Crushed with depression, he left for Hollywood to reinvent himself and his career. I was left with a huge home, a huge debt, two college-aged sons, my husbands eighty-nine-year-old mother who had lived in our home for seventeen years, and a badly bruised self-esteem. Within four months, the bank foreclosed on our debt. I sold what I could, shipped the rest to California, and helped my sons and mother-in-law find places to live. From my crisis came deliverance. From my loneliness came a newfound intimacy with the One who loves me unconditionally. He stands beside me drawing me near to Him in prayer, praise and Bible study, constantly reminding me of the Bible verses I memorized as a child. Each day I see His flavor in my life. God has never left my side. When others ride off into the sunset and you are left without a horse, let the dust settle. Lay down the burden of anger, resentment and fear. You were never meant to carry the heavy load. Jesus has said: My yoke is easy and my burden is light! (Matthew 11:30) Jesus Christ restores through forgiveness: His and yours.

The poetry within, covers over fifty years depicting the journey of a little girl, to a first kiss. Then a young woman a mother, a wife. And during this time, the heartache of betrayal, drugs, loss of lives, a prison internment and faith in God. Poems of people and attitudes. I am sure that there will be at least one poem that will touch the heart of the reader making all of this worthwhile and the only reason I have to share such personal lasting mementos of the life I’ve walked through. I share my poetry with you to let you know, you are never alone. One day I realized that what “Rod has Inspired, Deborah has Desired & through God has Acquired” the foundation of my writing began.

There shall be showers of blessings. (Ezekiel 34:26)The goodness, kindness, and blessings of God did not "start" when we repented of our sins and came to Christ-because it was the goodness and mercy of God that "led us" to repentance.Romans 2:4 says that we did not know that it was the goodness and forbearance of God that leads us to repentance. This is due to the fact that before our conversion, our "spiritual birth," or our born-again experience, we were blind to spiritual things-even the benevolent intervention of God in our lives.Remember, Jesus said in St. John 3:3,Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.Before we received Christ and became born again, we were spiritually blind. Saint John 1:12-13 says,But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.Therefore, after we are born again and are alive unto God, we are able to see and recognize all the goodness and mercy of God in our lives. When we look back over our lives with our new "spiritual perception," we see the goodness and forbearance of God that tenderly guided us to our salvation.Often the Holy Spirit will take us on a retrospective journey into our past and illuminate various times and situations that as born-again children, we are now able to see and identify as the gracious hand of our Heavenly Father at work in our lives. He was working in our lives long before we ever came to truly know Him or appreciate the goodness and mercy that was granted to us.However, when we do take the time and look back through the years with the eyes of our understanding being opened by our new birth in Christ, we begin to realize the blessings are more than we are able to count. It's like trying to count raindrops during a springtime shower. Of course, we know that it would be impossible to count each one. But whenever we recognize any of the providential blessings of God, and testify of his goodness and his mighty acts, we are giving praise to his name. Since there are so many of them and they never cease, then our praises of God would be continuous. This is why the palmist said,I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalm 34:1)Also,I will shew forth all thy marvelous works. (Psalm 9:1)AndO magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. (Psalm 34:3)The greatest form of praise is to describe what our God is able to do, has done, and is still doing-even in our times. He is able to do "exceeding, abundantly above all that we ask of think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Ephesians 3:20).It is my prayer that every believer will be more inspired to look through the clear prism of spiritual discernment and review their lives-before and after coming to Christ-and show forth all his marvelous works.

The new novel from the award-winning author of The Marlowe Papers April is angry. Dr Finlay Logan is broken. Only nineteen, April is an elective mute, accused of a religiously motivated atrocity. Logan, a borderline suicidal criminal psychologist, must assess her sanity in a world where - ten years after the death of Richard Dawkins - moves have been made to classify religious fundamentalism as a form of mental illness. Asking fundamental questions about the nature of reality, Barber skillfully explores the balance between the emotional and rational sides of human experience. Told in Ros Barber’s trademark mesmerizing prose, Devotion is an extraordinary, provocative novel from one of the brightest rising stars in fiction.

In his first collection of poems since From Scratch (1998), Clayton Eshleman presents another masterly set of variations on his signature themes: the origins of consciousness as traced in Upper Paleolithic cave art ("Ah, the early imaginal chewing, breaking / down worlds, extracting their fusional juices") and the collective early-human consciousness that underlies all our thoughts ("I disappeared," says a 90,000-year-old hominid skull, addressing the reader "I disappeared into you"). Here are topical poems of protest and resistance; also timeless lyrics of descent, regeneration, and rebirth poems of a piece with the vast, glittering web of personal myth and imagery that Eshleman has been spinning for almost four decades. But the great surprise of My Devotion is how tender and elegiac many of Eshleman's recent poems are, among them a sequence documenting the life, work, and final illness of the late Ann Mikolowski, a painter of land-, sea- and skyscapes. Most moving of all are the many lyrics about the courage, beauty, humor, and desire of the poet's wife, Caryl; also her growing fragility, and the poet's first intimations of a life without her. -- Amazon.com.

Writing inspirational poetry has been an important way for the author to express his feelings about God. In One Hundred Devotional Poems, he continues to explore these sentiments by creating one hundred sonnets that are based on a wide variety of beliefs and experiences. Exploring spiritual themes, these meditative poems are written with clarity and simplicity; however, they also portray life as a constant challenge that offers opportunities for growth. Meeting these challenges, of course, often involves loneliness, alienation, and sorrow as well. Nevertheless, these poems are ultimately about God and his love. This love is the overwhelming theme of One Hundred Devotional Poems, and it is the author’s hope that this idea comes through clearly in the poems.
