Outline of Christian Ethics is a Q&A book on moral questions of today. The book includes a large number of topics discussed in ethics, including personal ethics––birth, death, sex, work, wealth, the supernatural––and social ethics––politics, society, human rights, family, international issues. Moral questions are analyzed from an evangelical Christian viewpoint. The emphasis is on explaining ethical principles from the Bible, but arguments on both sides of the questions are examined. Because the author is a statistician, positions taken by the book are frequently supported by actual data from recent statistical surveys. “Outline of Christian Ethics is a valuable guide for Christians to live a moral life. The book is a rich source of information––better than most books on ethics that we can find in bookstores” (Rev. Dr. Jason Yeung, principal, Canadian Chinese School of Theology at Ambrose Seminary [Calgary]). “Dr. Hung humbly called his book an ‘outline’; yet the extent of the book is broad and deep. Dr. Hung does not use purely rational and argumentative methods; he employs the method of lighthearted conversation with the reader. Every chapter is introduced with some stories to stir up the interest of the reader. Furthermore, statistical facts are added to strengthen the persuasive power of the points made. The wealth of information contained in this book will help busy pastors and Christians find the necessary information quickly” Rev. Dr. Peter Au, principal, Canadian Chinese School of Theology at Tyndale Seminary [Toronto]).

In this truly seminal work, the Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at Oxford University illuminates the distinctive nature of Christian ethics with profound thought and massive learning. By grounding Christian ethics in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he avoids both a revealed ethics that has no contact with the created order and one that is purely naturalistic. For this second edition Professor O'Donovan has added a prologue in which he enters into dialogue with John Finnis, Martin Honecker, Karl Barth and Stanley Hauerwas. Essential reading for advanced students of theology and ethics and their teachers.

To Will & To Do presents one of the most significant theological contributions of the dynamic twentieth-century thinker Jacques Ellul. Benefiting from recent scholarship on Ellul and a discovery of a lost manuscript, this new edition renders the full text available in English for the first time, combining a fresh translation of Volume I with a first English translation of Volume II. Together, the two volumes constitute the introductory first part of Ellul’s planned four-part treatment of Christian ethics. Volume I examines the origin of the problem of Good and Evil, outlines the contemporary morality of Western society, and provocatively sketches the paradox of an impossible and yet necessary Christian ethics. Volume II carries this discussion forward, outlining the characteristics and conditions of Christian ethics. It then treats the relationship between ethics and the legal texts of the Bible, the relationship between ethics and dogmatic theology, and concludes by reimagining the theological use of the “analogy of faith” for scriptural interpretation. In constant dialogue with Karl Barth, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Paul Ricoeur, and many other theologians and philosophers, To Will & To Do constitutes a major intervention in twentieth-century theological ethics.

Excerpt from Christian Ideas and Ideals: An Outline of Christian Ethical Theory Aristotle's moral expert (6 Plato's philosopher-king, the Stoic 'wise man, ' the detached and self-sufficing intellectualist of Neo Platonism - Christianity sets forth the pattern of moral perfection in an actual human life. Thus in a unique sense the life was manifested in Jesus Christ: human life as it was divinely intended to be - enriched, ennobled, transfigured by an un broken and abiding fellowship with God. The New Testament accordingly Claims for the religion of Jesus Christ that it is a way, or rather the way, of life 1 and its Founder points to Himself as the way, the truth, and the life.2 Being in its essence a life, our religion assigns a central place to Him who is the li e. Precocious and sometimes marginalized Klaus Bockmuehl's insights regarding the Spirit's agency in Christian Ethics, and therefore in our daily Christian experiences, have renewed import, now. This is an exceptional book, it introduces us for the first time to a much-neglected thinker. It also equips us with an understanding of how the Church can live ethically in power, through its relationship with the Father. In both respects it has much to offer its reader and the wider contemporary church.
